Fact:  Andean Condors (Vultur gryphus) can fly up to 100 miles without a single flap (Williams et al. 2020).  What amazes me is the various sensors on telemetry that exist.  For this study they used tags that has triaxial accelerometer (to sense each wingbeat) and a triaxial magnetometer (to differentiate slope soaring and using thermals to circle).  The tag also had a sensor to detect barometirc pressure which could be used to calculate height above sea level.

Woke up and as usual spent most of the day working on Accipiter alignments.  Since the parentals were going to get more mulch I suggested they see if the people also sold pavers.  Turned out they did, so mother and I used those to build a more permanent set of stairs for Schubie.  Eventually I took Dumas for a walk- we walked down to the school and wandered around there a bit before walking home.  There were a couple of families down there having a cook out.  Once I got back we listened to game to of the Yankees/Orioles.  Once the game was over the parentals went to bed and I watched House Hunters International.

Fact: Machias Seal Island is contested territory between Canada and the US.  The Canadians built a light house there in 1832 and it currently is the only staffed light house on the eastern coast of Canada.  However, the US continues to claim it, as it is actually closer to Maine than it is to New Brunswick.

Woke up and had a random video chat for that same study as I participated in last week.  This time i
t all worked and I talked to some guy from NYC.  Mostly we talked about the pandemic, then road trips/parking in the city (his building has a 20 year wait list for assigned spots), followed by what we do for a living.  Once I was done with that mother and I picked the 1 ripe tomato on our plant and she even let me eat it.  It was very tasty.  After this it was time for lunch and then we built some stairs for Schubie since she is having trouble with the tall steps we have going outside.  It took a few treats but she decided it wasn't too bad.  I took Dumas for a walk, but since the dog right below us was wandering around it was only down to the road and back up.  Then we put on the Yankees/Orioles game.  Eventually father went to bed, but mother stayed up til the end of the game.  Then we watched some House Hunters International until she went to bed.  I kept watching and working on Accipiter, then spent the rest of the evening reading Shadow of Self.

Fact: Monotype type-composition systems were introduced in 1900 and allowed a user to type text using a keyboard that resulted in bunched holes in a paper.  The paper is then used like a roll in a player piano to tell a pneumatic system which letters of type to move into place next.  The process is much faster than having to set the type by hand.

Woke up and did a little bit of work before going to walmart to pick up some groceries.  Luckily I called mother before I left the parking lot because they only gave us one of the orders, not the other.  Once we got everything unloaded it was time for churching.  Black kittie tried to sneak in but we caught him.  Afterwards we talked for a bit then it was time for dinner.  We had pizza and beer followed by the carrot cake which turned out really well.  After that the parentals went to bed and I watched some House Hunters while working on Accipiter alignments until it was time to go to sleep.
